Direct answer
What matters most when packaging candy?
Candy packaging decisions depend on whether the product is hard, gummy, coated, oily, powdered or temperature-sensitive. Define moisture movement, sticking, aroma, light and seal contamination before choosing a clear, metalized or paper-look pouch. Confirm the actual candy, laminate, print, closure and filling process together.
Failure-mode map
Define the product risk before selecting a pouch.
Moisture and texture
Hard candy, gummies and coated pieces can respond differently to moisture gain or loss.
Heat and sticking
Distribution temperature and product formulation can change how pieces settle or contact the film.
Sugar or powder in seals
Coatings can interfere with zipper engagement and the final top seal.
Light and color
A clear window may expose products or colors that are light-sensitive.
Format logic
Match format to filling, shelf and use.
| Project condition | Format direction |
|---|---|
| Small impulse pack | Prioritize easy opening, print hierarchy and single-use seal performance. |
| Resealable sharing pouch | Set opening width, zipper grip and headspace from filled samples. |
| Window pouch | Place the window after observing product settling and label needs. |
Material direction
Compare candidate structures without turning them into promises.
Use supplier reports to compare the exact proposed material under stated conditions. Windows, zippers, seals, folds and conversion still require separate finished-pouch review.
| Candidate direction | When to evaluate it | Evidence still required |
|---|---|---|
| Clear PET / PE direction | Useful for product visibility when the shelf-life plan supports it. | Product contact, light, moisture/oxygen, print and seals. |
| Metalized direction | Candidate for opacity or higher-barrier review. | Exact laminate, flexing, appearance, seals and conditions. |
| Holographic or effect-film direction | A visual surface choice separate from barrier selection. | Print behavior, scuffing, recyclability claims and underlying structure. |
Filling and sealing
Protect the closure and final top seal.
Fill weight is not pouch volume. Record bulk density, settled pack shape, functional headspace, opening width and the intended sealing process before final dimensions are approved.
- Record candy temperature and condition at filling.
- Keep sugar, starch or sour powder below zipper and top-seal clearances.
- Review blocking or sticking during the planned storage and shipping range.
- Check tear initiation, zipper use, seal integrity, artwork and barcode on filled packs.

Candy packaging questions
Do gummies and hard candy need the same pouch?
Not necessarily. Formulation, water activity, coating, temperature and intended shelf life can change the structure and sealing direction.
Can a clear window cover most of the pouch?
It can be designed, but visible product settling, label area, light exposure, registration and barrier trade-offs should be reviewed first.
Does a matte finish change product protection?
Finish affects appearance and handling; barrier depends on the full laminate, seals and converted pouch.
What causes candy pouch seals to fail?
Product, sugar or powder in the seal zone, wrinkles, incorrect settings and incompatible materials are possible contributors that require controlled review.
What should artwork approval include?
Approve the controlled dieline, copy, colors, barcode, window, seal areas, zipper clearance and revision identifier.
