What matters most when packaging beans, peas & corn?
Roasted peas, chickpeas, fava beans and corn combine a dense fill with hard edges and fine seasoning. Check puncture and bottom-gusset load before reducing gauge. Oil content, coating and moisture sensitivity determine the barrier trial; a gas flush is a process input to validate, not a substitute for sound seals.
Failure-mode map
Define the product risk before selecting a pouch.
Hard edges
Roasted kernels can concentrate load against the laminate during parcel handling.
Seasoning fines
Powder may enter the zipper track and seal area.
Dense fill
The bottom gusset and case count need review at actual weight.
Oil and crispness
Recipe and roast conditions affect oxygen and moisture sensitivity.
Format logic
Match format to filling, shelf and use.
| Project condition | Format direction |
|---|---|
| Standard stand-up pouch | Front and back faces with side seals and a bottom gusset; review filled standing stability. |
| Resealable sharing pack | Select opening width and zipper clearance from actual product access. |
Material direction
Compare candidate structures without turning them into promises.
Use supplier reports to compare the exact proposed material under stated conditions. Windows, zippers, seals, folds and conversion still require separate finished-pouch review.
| Candidate direction | When to evaluate it | Evidence still required |
|---|---|---|
| PET / VMPET / PE | Starting direction for an opaque roasted-snack pouch. | Oil compatibility, barrier reports and filled-pouch flex and drop results. |
| PET / PA / PE direction | Compare when puncture resistance is the limiting factor. | Puncture testing on filled packs; PA alone does not establish moisture or oxygen protection. |
| PE-based alternative | Consider only when the recipe and market requirements support a material change. | Complete-pack recycling assessment, seal trials and filled storage; no automatic performance equivalence. |
Filling and sealing
Protect the closure and final top seal.
Fill weight is not pouch volume. Record bulk density, settled pack shape, functional headspace, opening width and the intended sealing process before final dimensions are approved.
- Measure bulk density and settled fill height.
- Keep kernels and seasoning below the final heat seal.
- If gas flushing is used, record residual oxygen and seal settings.
- Test puncture, gusset loading and repeated zipper access separately.

Beans, Peas & Corn packaging questions
How should beans, peas & corn pouch size be selected?
Measure settled product volume, opening clearance and headspace, then validate a filled sample.
Does the laminate name guarantee shelf life?
No. Request the exact structure and test conditions, then validate the converted pouch with the actual product and storage plan.
What should a sealing trial include?
If gas flushing is used, record residual oxygen and seal settings.
Which product risk should I review first?
Roasted kernels can concentrate load against the laminate during parcel handling.
Can I compare printed references before ordering?
Yes. Use the gallery reference in your inquiry, then confirm the product, size, material and print route before approving production.
